FORWARD-THINKING WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD LEARN MORE THIS TERM

FROM SIMPLE STEPS TO ENCOURAGE READING TO EYE-CARE MOTS AND PRACTICAL PLANNING , VIA A LESSON IN NEW TECH , SAMANTHA READY SHARES HER TOP TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHILD START THE YEAR FULL OF ENTHUSIASM AND A PASSION FOR LEARNING .
Encourage Learning Around Their Interests
While every child needs to understand the grounding principles in core curriculum subjects , one way to encourage breadth of learning is to create opportunities to gain knowledge and build skills in areas that genuinely interest them . Have an early years ‘ new-schooler ’ obsessed with dinosaurs ? Then build their palaeontology library with a host of picture , lift-the-flap and interactive books . A junior / prep schooler obsessed with animals , sports or even Harry Potter ? Try educational Trump Cards and trivia games . Or , if battling the reclusive teenager gamer , why not throw in a couple of gaming magazines ? In any form , reading is reading and not only will these approaches harness curiosity and appeal to their individual identities , they ’ ll ultimately aid reading skills too .
Get Social !
Nope , we don ’ t mean in the meeting and greeting sense ( although that ’ s equally important ), we mean by embracing the new language of learning and revision that is dominating social media platforms .
According to MyTutor ( www . mytutor . co . uk ), some 27 % of UK students use social media as one of their go-to learning sources , 30 % actively use online resources such as YouTube and TikTok to better understand what they learn at school , while a massive 59 % use social media platforms to support their studies in some way or another . Additionally , the watch figures are astounding with some 1.8 million views of MyTutor ’ s bite-sized TikTok Textbook series , which handily breaks down the hardest GCSE and A-Level questions with the AQA and OCR exam schedules in mind .
So , whether its following hashtags such as # StudyTok or moving YouTube scrolling to a more directed educational experience , now is the time to embrace social ed-tech and boost screen time learning .
