Powered by the spirit of the dragon , charred timber , textured marble and crackled ceramics are then show-stoppingly forgotten aside the towering cherry blossom trees and glorious skylight . Last , but in no means least , the ‘ Main Residence ’ is the moody yet vibrant sophisticated enclave of the house . Inspired by the tiger , this luxury abode is also home to the restaurant ’ s resident DJ who pumps out ‘ lounge-house ’ beats to the beautiful people who strive to dine here , and where my guest and I happily took our seats .
With a focus on modern Chinese cooking , the menu is a masterclass in shared-plate dining . Fresh , deeply flavoursome and exquisitely presented , this is Asian food at its finest . It follows the concept of ‘ dishes appear when ready ’, but we aimed for the chronological order of dim sum , small plate , large plate when making our choices .
Dim sum offered delights such as a rich wagyu ribeye dumpling with kimchi , Iberico pulled pork gyoza and an inspired chicken truffle shumai . Small plates are divided into raw , where you ’ ll find yellowtail and kiwi sashimi jostling for attention alongside wagyu fillet carpaccio , and hot , which offered sugar-salt squid , black cod croquettes and Szechuan red belly pork alongside one of our favourite dishes of the evening , the sticky beef short rib - glazed in soy and chilli and offset with crispy shallots , it was rich , moreish and utterly delicious .
Large plates continued the flavour-packed theme . On the recommendation of maître-d ’ Yiannis , we opted for Shanghai black cod ; perfectly seared with a hoisin , ginger and lime glaze , and the caramel soy-aged beef fillet , which came served perfectly rare with shitake , ginger and asparagus . Ordered to share , it became chopsticks at dawn as we fought over the tender beef and delicate fish , only distracted by the arrival of steamed jasmine rice and the utterly divine duck egg and Chinese sausage fried rice .
Now , we probably didn ’ t need pudding , but it ’ s essential to find room here for dessert as one final theatrical hurrah . Mr R ’ s dragon egg proffered an intricate , gold-dusted chocolate shell filled with mousse and a blue tea yolk , smoke this time of the
cherry wood variety . But the pièce de résistance is the cherry blossom . A delicate crafted cherry blossom tree of filigree chocolate and candy floss planted in chocolate soil and served on a dry-ice lake as a final flourish . Boasting chocolate , white chocolate , cherry sorbet and that gorgeous candy floss blossom , what ’ s not to like ?
With diners encapsulated by the decor and enthralled by the dishes , Tattu ’ s popularity has evidently already risen as skyward as its rooftop location . Proving that there can be substance as well as style , sophistication as well as superior culinary skill , all that remains is to vie for the next available reservation .
