WELCOME

I love September .
There I said it . Amongst the summer-loving sunseekers , the winter wonderlanders and the spring supremos , the often underrated month of September , for a whole heap of exciting reasons is , in my humble opinion , one of the best months around !
Now , part of my rationale is of course the heralded institution of ‘ back to school ’. Whether you have had a summer of unrivalled excitement , memorymaking and family time experiences , or have battled the summer holiday war cries of “ I ’ m bored ” and “ can I have another snack ?”, parents everywhere stand united as the bus pulls up or the gate swings open and a mutual sigh of relief escapes - we made it through another one - hurrah ! ( Pass the wine !).
Of course the back-to-school excitement in Kent is also buoyed by the fact that our delightful county is home to some of the best educational institutions in the country . Therefore it gives us great pleasure here at iKHQ to bring you our second special education feature of the year . Bursting with facts , figures and achievements across the nurseries , prep schools , schools , colleges and universities that call our county home , find our huge 42-page special feature , in association with Whitehead Monckton , all ready to assist you with educational planning for your family starting from p149 .
We also recognise that education is not just limited to our littlies either .
Learning is a great source of brain-powering activity , focus and reward , and as such we have highlighted some of the more interesting ways to harness a new hobby and develop new skills whatever your age and interests ; find out all about it from p179 .
TOASTING THE START OF A NEW TERM WITH MY BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER AT THE BEAUTIFUL herd . IN CANTERBURY
And if that were not enough to stimulate some back to school ( or the office ) excitement , we bring you sleep tips direct from the Lionesses ’ den on p118 , ideas to harness your new business start up on p194 and we ’ ve even thrown in some super tasty lunchbox recipes on p73 too .
So , the other part of my rationale ? September begins that great seasonal shift . The days are often still warm enough to venture out and about , exploring town , coast and countryside , and in doing so we are able to wind our way through the host of bumper seasonal crops ready to fill our plates . Eating seasonally and locally is not only great for your own health and wellbeing but also in reducing food miles , supporting local producers and lowering your carbon footprint . Find out more about some of Kent ’ s seasonal superheroes from p49 .
September also starts that headfirst volley into autumn and all things cosy , crunchy ( I ’ m going with leaves here !) and Christmassy .
In order to start your seasonal shift in style , we bring you autumn capsule wardrobe inspiration from p111 , seasonally serene interiors from p140 , help you get your pantry organised ready for your bulk hearty meal preps on p135 , and if that were not enough , we have only gone and thrown in some extra special seasonal sneak peeks ... From banging bottomless brunches to fun-filled festive parties , upcoming shows and Christmas events that are not-to-be-missed , get ahead in your diary-filling from p33 .
If all of this is still not enough to keep you reading on , we also bring you reviews of the beautiful Brasserie at Eastwell Manor on p85 ; herd ., the funloving , fine-dining steak , wine and cocktail restaurant that ’ s taking Canterbury by storm on p46 ; London ’ s acclaimed Tattu on p104 ; and Dublin ’ s must-do , stay and eats all from p106 .
I ’ m off to raise a ( large ) glass of Kentish wine , not only in celebration of of the start of term and getting this humongous issue of your favourite Kent magazine to print , but also in celebration of the Wine Garden of Kent ’ s pending harvest - don ’ t forget to check out p63 for all you need for your own Kentish Wine Time - and relax - we ’ ve made it !
Cheers Kent !
