How to work from home - happily

HAVING LIVED IN WHAT FELT LIKE A PARALLEL UNIVERSE FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS , MOST OF US ARE NOW EMBRACING THE WORLD ONCE MORE , BUT NOT SO MUCH THE OFFICE … ALTHOUGH IT ’ S GREAT TO RECONNECT WITH COLLEAGUES FROM TIME-TO-TIME , ONE POST-PANDEMIC POSITIVE IS THAT FLEXIBLE WORKING – IN TERMS OF BOTH HOURS AND LOCATION – HAS PROVEN SUCCESSFUL AND MANY OF US ARE WORKING FROM HOME MORE . FOR LOTS OF PEOPLE , THE THOUGHT OF REMOTE WORKING SENDS SHIVERS DOWN THEIR SPINE – IT ’ S A GLIB VISION OF ROUTINES GOING TO POT , LONELINESS , BORING LUNCHES AND NOT KNOWING WHO TO TURN TO WHEN THE MILK ’ S RUN OUT . WORRY YE NOT THOUGH UNBELIEVERS , WE ’ VE CURATED SOME TOP TIPS ON HOW TO SEPARATE THE PROFESSIONAL FROM THE PERSONAL AT HOME , SO YOU WON ’ T FEEL LIKE YOU ’ RE LIVING IN THE OFFICE .
Create a dedicated workspace
First thing ’ s first , get your home office organised . If you have the luxury of a spare room to set up in , great , but if not don ’ t despair , you just need to find a corner of your home that can accommodate the basics – a desk and monitor stand , a supportive chair and a good lamp . Of course , a pen pot and a scented candle would add the finishing touches but go with what works for you and create a clean , productive space .
Keep work , recreation and sleep separate
The lure of the sofa is strong when working from home – especially if remote working is a novelty – but use all of your power to resist sinking into it because the worst thing you can do is confuse your creative workspace with your chillout zone as you ’ ll never fully switch on or off from work . Stay away from your bed at all costs ; you ’ ll open your laptop , log in to any necessary accounts and promptly doze off , which doesn ’ t exactly scream productivity .
