CREATIVE SUSTAINABILITY

Modern interior design is very much reflecting the movement towards a sustainable future . Choosing to work with materials that have a low environmental impact , are high-quality yet at the same time long-lasting seems to be the way of the world , and most manufacturers , furniture and furnishing brands are all becoming increasingly conscious of their environmental influence .
Decorating our homes using natural materials such as wood , stone , brick , linen , wool or seagrass is a relatively easy solution , however it ’ s important to note where those materials are being sourced from . Use recycled materials such as reclaimed or recycled wood , or champion local furniture makers who use wood sourced from a known supplier . Think outside the box with creative alternatives and opt for materials like bamboo or rattan for your indoor furniture solutions . Cork is a diverse flooring material that is sound absorbing , comforting , beautiful and eco-friendly . Seagrass is also really having its moment in interiors - it ’ s a stylish and modern floor covering that looks great in modern designs ; some companies are even offering seat coverings in this diverse material . Furnish your home with antique , second-hand pieces ; choose things that you love and that are built to last – they ’ ll love you back for years to come .
On a practical level , creative sustainability starts with the existing and working with what you ’ ve got ; experiment and reuse – sometimes the best things are there , ready and waiting for you to bring them back to life .
