77 . The Roman Museum , Canterbury Ancient art at its finest . First uncovered in 1868 when workmen , digging trenches for a new drainage system , reached eight feet below street level and unwittingly unearthed a beautifully preserved Roman floor mosaic . Even more was discovered later , during the Blitz after a raid on Canterbury . 78 . Lullingstone Roman Villa , Eynsford Yes , Kent has an awful lot to thank the Romans for . Another Roman art treasure comes in the form of the floors of an ancient villa , almost perfectly preserved since about AD 100 . Visitors to the Lullingstone today can still view the spectacular mosaics and prints of the rare wall paintings , including a heated bath-suite and a ‘ house-church ’.
