What was your design timeframe ?
It took almost two years for the client to get the planning approved for the extension that now forms part of the kitchen . As other renovations were being done , and the existing kitchen still remained , the design timeframe wasn ’ t set in stone , however we always try to turn the drawings around for new projects within two weeks of meeting with the client ; this moves things along efficiently .
Were there any project pitfalls ?
There weren ’ t . Other than delays caused by Covid , and the delivery of products , everything went pretty smoothly . It did help however , that the space had been prepped and was ready to go prior to our arrival .
How did you achieve the balance between an excellent design-led refurb which also kept to the clients budget ?
From the off we had a budget for this project in mind . We had thought originally that some movements would mean going over that budget , but a little tweak to the overall finish ensured that the project was brought back into line , and without compromising on the design . It ’ s always give and take on a project like this , but that ’ s the part that makes it exciting and keeps us on our toes .
Were there any design surprises or brief changes during the design process or installation stage ?
There are always changes along the way ; I believe this is just part of the kitchen process .
Could you highlight any key features in this kitchen that you think really make it ?
On this particular project , there are so many features it ’ s hard to choose ! From the lovely windows that tie in with the original oak beams , to the striking stone waterfall island , the brass rails on the stone shelves , and the panelled hallway to match everywhere you look , there is that ‘ wow ’ element . My favourite feature has to be the freestanding oven wine rack cabinets ; these have to be the main feature of this space .
At Herringbone , our fitters and craftsmen have an incredible eye for detail , which is very obvious in this space from the starting lines and smooth symmetry .
