The Kent pub sees off tough competition from all over the UK to win the Knorr ® Professional Great British Roast Competition .
The Eight Bells , Hawkhurst , has today been named the winner of the Best Meat Roast Dinner in Knorr ® Professional ’ s Great British Roast Dinner Competition .
The competition seeks to recognise the very best roast dinners served across the UK and to honour the professional chefs who work hard to create them .
Winners were decided by an esteemed judging panel , including Alex Hall , Executive Chef for Unilever Food Solutions . Finalists were scored based on quality , service , cleanliness , value for money , presentation – and , of course , taste .
The Eight Bells Country Pub and Kitchen is fantastic 18th century pub sitting on the beautiful Moor in Hawkhurst . Recently taken over by James and Annie Rogers , the pub prides itself on seasonal , fresh , ‘ rustic country ’ food for lunch and dinner . The winning roast dinner was a magnificent roast rump of local beef served with all the trimmings .
Reacting to their win , James Rogers , Head Chef and Owner at the Eight Bells , said : “ It ’ s a real honour to have our roast recognised in this way . We ’ re hugely passionate about using the best quality ingredients , local where possible and always seasonal and fresh . We cook our meat at regular intervals throughout Sunday service , to ensure that every customer gets a fresh cut from lunch through to the evening .”
James added : “ We also have a fantastic team of chefs and front of house staff , who are as passionate about great food and brilliant service as I am . We look after them , feed them and renumerate them well – it ’ s simple really , and it means that they respect you and will stay with you for the longer term .”

Winning the title of Britain ’ s Best Meat Roast is an incredible achievement and a testament to the work that the team at The Eight Bells have clearly put in to serving an outstanding roast dinner .”
As well as the prestigious title of Britain ’ s Best Meat Roast 2021 , The Eight Bells will receive a prize package including a £ 3,000 voucher to spend on equipment for their pub and kitchen .
