POLDHURST MANOR BARN CONVERSION with Stella Rooflights
POLDHURST MANOR IS A STUNNING COUNTRY RESIDENCE IN HARBLEDOWN AND ROUGH COMMON , KENT . WITH PART OF THE MAIN RESIDENCE DATING BACK TO THE EARLY 16TH CENTURY , THE ESTATE INCLUDES A NUMBER OF GRADE II LISTED BARNS , WHICH HAVE ALL BEEN CONVERTED FOR OFFICE AND LEISURE SPACE . A NEW UPSTAIRS AREA HAS BEEN RECENTLY INTRODUCED INTO ONE OF THE BARNS , CREATING A USEFUL SPACE WHICH OWNER PAUL COWHAM INTENDS TO USE AS A GYMNASIUM .
Why were bespoke Stella Rooflights chosen to finish the barn conversion ?
The brief was for a stunning look inside and out . In order to create a light , airy and well-ventilated space , owner Paul commissioned four Stella bespoke conservation rooflights that now flood the large open upstairs space with natural daylight , creating the perfect environment for those morning spin sessions .
" We spent a long time researching the various conservation rooflight products available and we really liked the look and the high specification offered with the Stella Rooflight option ,” explains Paul .
Stella designed and manufactured the opening rooflights to fit an internal rafter size 550mm x 850mm , each with a single glazing bar . Internally the rooflights were finished with a stylish American Ash liner to achieve a high quality finish and excellent thermal performance .
“ We were able to design the rooflights exactly how we wanted them ,” adds Paul . “ Paul [ Trace ] and the team were extremely helpful throughout the entire process .”

The rooflights were manufactured using Marine Grade 316 stainless steel and finished with a C5 powder coating offering excellent protection against the elements with minimum maintenance .
The glazing consisted of a 4mm toughened Bio-Clean Natural self-clean and solar control outer pane with a 16mm black warm edge spacer filled with Argon gas and a 4mm toughened Planitherm Low E inner pane . The four opening rooflights are manually operated using high quality solid brass winders .
Satisfied customer Paul was also won over by the British-led manufacturing and overall quality : “ The fact that the rooflights are designed and manufactured in the UK also appealed and you can really see the quality in the finish and design . We have been very impressed with the Stella team and we love the appearance of our new rooflights . We will be back for more !"
