BIDDENDEN-BASED KENT DESIGN STUDIO HAVE BEEN HONOURED AT THIS YEAR ’ S INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY AWARDS WITH AWARDS ACROSS THREE CATEGORIES , WINNING FOR BOTH KENT AND THE SOUTH EAST .

ORCHARD YARD AT WINGHAM
Two projects from Kent Design Studio were awardwinners . Orchard Yard at Wingham received two 5 star awards , the highest award , as Best Architecture Multiple Residence South East and Best Residential Development Kent . 71 Claremont Road in Tunbridge Wells ( see p173 ) was also a South East award-winner as Architectural Single Residence .
They were two very different projects , each requiring a different set of needs when it came to both design and use , each showcased Kent Design Studio ’ s varied skill sets within the team .
Orchard Yard is an exclusive new community of homes , consisting of nine houses and six apartments , perfectly designed for retirement living and equipped to adapt over time . The site lies within the rurally located village of Wingham , set within the original walled garden of Wingham Court , a Grade II listed manor house .
The design took into account the agricultural setting of the development , taking on a classical arrangement of traditional buildings , but with a contemporary look , especially where new building was undertaken . There is also the inclusion of multiple communal open areas , with each property enjoying views out over the grounds . A highly sought after development , construction is complete with the show home now open .
In contrast , 71 Claremont Road is a replacement single dwelling , situated in the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells , undertaken with the aim to provide a more ergonomic home to suit the needs of a growing family . Situated in the Tunbridge Wells Conservation Area , this project reflects the appearance of surrounding properties from the front , whilst taking on a more modern look from the rear . The inclusion of a glazed gable for the studio on the top floor along with full height glazing throughout has created a light rich home , an open plan layout , zoned by different levels , gives a connected , open living space . The result is a unique home , which caters specifically to the owners ’ requirements , whilst taking into account and working sympathetically within the surrounding area .
The International Property Awards are judged by an independent panel of over 80 industry experts . Judging focuses on design , quality , service , innovation , originality , and commitment to sustainability . Just one project per category is awarded a five star award , with a maximum of three properties being crowned award winners . To have three wins across two projects is a huge achievement and cements Kent Design Studio ’ s reputation as a leader within the South East .
