What is Kent Green Hop Fortnight ?
It ’ s a celebration of Kent ’ s beer and hops and the chance to taste newly released limited edition cask beers made from just-harvested hops produced by over 30 of Kent ’ s finest brewers . The event , which launched at the Canterbury Food and Drink Festival on 24th September , runs until 10th October . The map ( which is also available online at kentgreenhopbeer . com / about / the-map ) shows all of the breweries taking part .
Where did the idea for Kent Green Hop Fortnight come from ?
I ’ m so passionate about beer and hops and came up with the idea for Green Hop Fortnight over 10 years ago , after speaking to a number of other brewers in Kent and identifying there was a real opportunity to showcase the best of Kent ’ s beer innovation and celebrate the hop harvest . The Green Hop Fortnight launched in Canterbury but it is very much a Kentwide event and a great way to encourage people – both in Kent and beyond – to get immersed in everything that ’ s great about Kent beer !
What beers do you recommend trying ?
The beauty is that there is so much choice and such a great opportunity to taste your way around Kent , maybe discovering breweries you didn ’ t know before or finding a new favourite from each brewery ’ s individual take on creating a hop harvest celebration brew . From Britain ’ s oldest brewer , Shepherd Neame , based in Faversham , to one of Kent ’ s smallest microbreweries Canterbury Brewers and Distillers ; housed in a Victorian Industrial Foundry in central Canterbury that produced cast metal items that went all over the world . From Westerham and Larkins in West Kent over to Gadds ’ and Breakwater in East Kent , you can create your own cask beer trail to discover the best of Kent ’ s vibrant beer scene .

There ’ s a few ways to try the range of Kent Green Hop beers . You can find the Green Hop beers throughout Kent in numerous pubs , restaurants and bars – follow us on social media for more info . Or you can go and visit the breweries themselves to try the Green Hop fresh from the source – do call ahead of your visit to check timings .
