It is not just the rich coffee aromas , delicious cake and friendly staff that make Steep Street Coffee the cosy , contented haven in which guests can relax and take comfort in , but the wonderful interior consisting of walls covered in shelves of books from floor to ceiling , of poetry and local literature . Sitting halfway up the Old High Street in Folkestone which stoops down towards the seafront , you will find Steep Street Coffee House and Bakery nestled between artist studios and quirky boutiques .
Owners Alice and Stephen say they are ‘ inspired by the latest trends in coffee culture but not defined by them ’ thus manifesting their professional and highly regulated processes which also ensure consistency of flavour and quality of the coffee at Steep Street . The books are for browsing and also for sale , so customers are welcome to take them off the shelves and read during their visit , adding something extra interesting to an experience here .
With not only speciality coffee available , Steep Street pride themselves on their food too . Offering sandwiches , salads , paninis , patisserie and a good deal of their famous homemade cakes , Steep Street change their food daily to ensure it is always fresh , inventive and tasty . All the food is created on the premises using nutritious , wholesome ingredients for customers to enjoy .

Run by husband and wife team Stuart and Julia Barber , Malabar was born out of a love of good coffee and a passion to provide the best service and produce in Sevenoaks . Serving breakfast muffins , toasties , paninis and savoury croissants , which are made fresh on the premises every day , Malabar has much more than just coffee for guests to enjoy .
Also making up the menu are irresistible cakes which are locally supplied by small , home grown businesses and pastries which are baked using the finest organic ingredients , freshly delivered , seven days a week .
From a pot of Fairtrade , award-winning loose-leaf tea to the vast range of hot chocolates and freshly blended smoothies , guests will not be hard-pressed to find something they will relish on the menu at Malabar .

A furloughed lockdown stroll along the beach for best friends Anna Lockyer and Claire Oakley sparked the idea of creating their own coffee shop ... with a difference . As coffee-lovers , parents and local residents , they experienced first hand how hard it was to find a local caffeine fix during the pandemic and knew that they could offer the local community its very own coffee hub , courtesy of ‘ Frenchie ’ a restored Citroen HY van positioned next to the local park and school .
Fast-forward through a year of planning , restoring Frenchie , and sourcing the very best local suppliers ; which now include & Bloss Coffee , Wild Bread sourdough , Kent Crisps , the legendary Baking With Mrs K cakes and brownies , and another Finberry indie , Cookie & Dough cookies , and the Caffeine & Fizz dream became a reality as Frenchie , now wrapped in the brand ’ s signature pink , rolled into Finberry in Ashford in August .
Open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm , visitors can find freshly brewed coffees , freshly made daily special sandwiches , cakes , and cookies to take away or enjoy in a dedicated seating area next to the van , with four-legged customers taken care of too with water bowls and treats !
