HOME + GARDEN
MEET THE GARDENER CONT .
What ’ s the best time of year for visitors to see the garden ?
This is truly a garden for all seasons . But April and May , with the bluebells , rhododendrons and wisteria all in flower at this time , is simply beautiful .
What ’ s your biggest achievement as a gardener ?
I have two . The first is the students , visitors and people I ’ ve met and inspired to have a go at gardening or to try a new technique or plant ; and hopefully seeing them develop as gardeners – with them then passing on their knowledge . The second is planting trees for the future which I probably won ’ t see fully grown .
Do you have a favourite plant / tree ?
The hardy cyclamen , as they have attractive flowers and beautifully marked leaves throughout the year if you pick the right species to plant into your gardens . Easy to look after , they can tolerate shady areas and sunny sites equally . They are also easy to propagate from seed . The only thing they don ’ t like is being too wet !
What ’ s the one plant / tree everyone should have in their garden ?
Well of course it ’ s the hardy cyclamen , for all the reasons as stated above .
What ’ s your favourite season in the garden ? Spring with all the expectation of the year to come .
Hole Park Gardens are now open on Wednesdays , Thursdays and Sundays for visitors ( and their dogs on short leads ). Visitors can pay at admission or book tickets in advance online .
