What is the story behind Matches ?
Hi , I ’ m Jon , owner of Matches . I ’ ve lived in Ashford most of my life and have always pined for a proper Sports Bar in town . When the Elwick Place development was announced I decided it would be the perfect destination for one .
So why a sports bar ?
I ’ ve been to many Sports Bars across the country and the one thing ( the good ones !) have in common is a buzzing , family-friendly , social atmosphere with a real sense of fun and excitement , something which I thought the people of Ashford would really enjoy .
What should people expect when they walk in the door ?
At the heart of what we do is offer a premium audio and visual experience to watch live sports from around the globe . We have a wide selection of craft beers , spirits and cocktails available plus a grill kitchen cooking up amazing food including burgers , fries , wings , and waffles , plus plenty of vegan options too .
Great , what else is there ?
We have three self-pour beer booths where people can sit back and relax without missing a single moment of the match , as the beer is available for you to pour yourselves on tap ! Then we have a pool table and an interactive dartboard , plus a shuffleboard , arcade machine , Playstation 5 , Nintendo Switch , and Wii .
Wow , anything else ?
We also have ' The Match Box ' which is our privatescreening room with surround sound and an 85- inch screen . It ' s available for private hire for all events and important sporting matches , featuring a secret serving hatch linking directly to the bar . What does the future hold for Matches ?
We want to keep spreading the word of what we ' re all about . We want to continue connecting with and supporting local sports teams and societies by being the place to go for chats about team tactics , after training wind-downs and those all-important team socials . Also , we ’ ve just launched our kids menu and £ 7 lunch menu , where with any meal purchased families can play on our Nintendo Switch or Wii for free !
