Vicky McClure Urges Kent to Step Up to Help Beat Dementia with Alzheimer ’ s Society
As ambassador of the UK ’ s leading dementia charity , Alzheimer ’ s UK , actress Vicky McClure known for her roles in This is England and Line of Duty , is stepping up to urge willing participants to help fundraise for the charity by completing a ‘ Memory Walk ’.
After being unable to get together for these annual charity walks for over a year due to the pandemic , people can now unite at 20 locations across the UK to support those affected by dementia . Kent ’ s very own ‘ Memory Walk ’ will take place at Mote Park in Maidstone on 12th September , you can now sign up for free at memorywalk . org . uk and with every step help change the lives of the 850,000 people in the UK who are currently living with dementia and their families .
Hospices of Hope Surpass All Expectations at the London Landmarks Half-Marathon
Based in Otford , Hospices of Hope is the only UK charity that develops and supports hospice care in South East Europe . On August 1st , Hospices of Hope ’ s fundraisers , based on the Kent born characters Bagpuss & Friends created by local legends Oliver Postgate and Pete Firmin , surpassed all expectations on their 13.1 mile run through the captivating route of the London Landmarks event . Along the route , Bagpuss & Friends ( amid thousands of runners ) passed famous London Landmarks ; and immersed in celebration on the way . They were also supported by Hospices of Hope and their bright pink ‘ Team Bagpuss ’ cheer station .
Anna Perolls , interim CEO at Hospices of Hope , said : “ Hospices of Hope extends a huge thank you to Bagpuss , our runners and their sponsors for their wonderful support for the charity ’ s great cause of raising funds for terminally and seriously-ill patients who seek respite in our hospices in South East Europe . The Charity relies totally on donations and we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with Bagpuss as our mascot for our children ’ s wing in Romania . All funds raised from this event will benefit children with rare and life limiting illnesses in our care .”

Inspired by David McKee ’ s beloved patchwork elephant , the hugely successful ‘ Elmer ’ s Big Heart of Kent Parade ’ in Maidstone , organised by Heart of Kent Hospice , will finish with a charity auction on 9th September . The wonderful art trail that has captured the eyes and hearts of adults and children alike , ended on Sunday 22nd August , but you can now book a time slot ( elmermaidstone . co . uk / farewell-weekend ) to view all 82 unique Elmers in one location for the last time at the ‘ Farewell Weekend ’ taking place at Lockmeadow , Maidstone between 3 and 5 September 2021 . There is also the chance to become the proud owner of a one-of-a-kind Elmer ; the 51 unique , large Elmer sculptures will go under the hammer to find their forever homes at a spectacular auction at the Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel .
