WELCOME

Post new year , September is of course the month we all recognise as the next annual restart . The start of autumn , the start of new beginnings and of course the start of the new academic year , which is poignantly more significant this year than most .
They say that education is learning what you didn ’ t even know you didn ’ t know , and of course learning is not just in the domain of the classroom .
This year , more than most , I think we have all learnt something . From the importance of loved ones to new lockdown-learnt skills , to conducting our daily jobs via Zoom to how to bake banana bread , or simply , just how to be resilient and adapt to change in the most bizarre and vulnerable of times .
Our September issue is not only our largest so far of the year ( hurrah !) boasting heaps of events , news and reviews , but also our second annual education special .
In honour of the county ’ s most acclaimed and accomplished schools we have over 40 pages , starting on p147 , dedicated to academia in Kent . Discussing financial considerations , qualifications , extra curricular activities , preparing for higher education , postlockdown opportunity , and , importantly , the ethos of giving and charity which changes not just the lives of recipients but of volunteers and fundraisers too .
With a change in seasons comes a change in produce too . Hailed as national organic month , this September we have once again turned our focus to the farm to fork journey across our bountiful Kent . We delve into the sustainable journey of our farmers on p50 ; showcase some of the most passionate and dedicated farm shops from p59 ; and highlight the epitome in fresh cooking courtesy of our reviews of the incredible Water Lane on p68 and UNITÀ 4 on p89 . Inspired to cook up your own seasonal produce feast ? We take you back to your roots with our veg-heavy seasonal recipes from p71 .
Speaking of the earth and roots , why not bring some much needed calming earthy tones to your home too ? This season , we highlight the top tones for natural calm , from p140 ; and turn our attention to the crux of interior design , flooring . We bring you this season ’ s trends for sustainable , hard-wearing and design-led flooring options as well as solutions for keeping your floors pristine too , all from p115 .
I ’ m off to celebrate getting this issue out to you lovely readers ( and the start of term !) with a rather large glass of ‘ Best Turned Out ’ – Yotes Courts ’ debut gold medal award-winner ! You can find your tipple of award-winning choice on p83 !
Keep smart and fresh Kent ,
EXPLORING THE BEAUTIFUL WATER LANE WALLED GARDEN
But of course education is not just limited to schooling . Steeped in history , culture and typography , our county is a haven of educational experiences from royal castles to conservation , maritime preservation to theatre . Discover some days out with a difference from p27 and the organisations leading a conservation charge from p36 . www . insidekentmagazine . co . uk
