MartaPT
After being adopted from the El Salvador Civil War in the 1980 ’ s , Marta Beacom was introduced to the wonders of exercise by her English parents . From horse riding to long distance running to swimming , Marta loved everything fitness , and wanted to start helping others with their fitness journey . After years working for corporate gyms , Marta decided it was time to set out on her own , and so MartaPT was born . Centred in her very own custom-built home gym , Marta trains her clients away from prying eyes and the bustling settings of commercial workout centres . Talking about why she loves being self-employed Marta explained ; ‘ I love having my own business , being able to spend time with my son and my dog , managing my own diary and being in control of my future . I love the variety in my work , every client is different .’ After establishing an impressive online presence during lockdown MartaPT is looking to build on that success in the coming year . When asked what tips she would give to others looking to follow in her footsteps she said ; ‘ Believe and have faith in yourself that you can do it . Confidence is key even when you don ’ t have a clue what you are doing !’

Eden ’ s Daughter
After experiencing the miracle of birth , Natalie Da Costa wanted to start living a more healthy life , cutting out excess sugars , additives and all manner of alarming junk that can be found in everyday skincare products . It was here that her fascination with natural skincare began , and many hours of study and research later , Natalie launched her very own skincare brand ; Eden ’ s Daughter in May 2020 . Having launched during a world-wide pandemic Eden ’ s Daughter had to get creative with their marketing , and opted to reach potential customers through social media and a heightened online presence . A strategy which has clearly worked as it ’ s no longer just friends and family banging down the door to get their hands on Natalie ’ s clean brand of skincare . When speaking about her proudest moment as a small business owner , Natalie pointed to the exciting announcement that Eden Oil is currently in the finals of the 2021 Free From Skincare Awards – an incredible honour for such a fledgling business . She went on to give the following advice on small businesses ownership ; ‘ My best tip would be to ensure you really love what you ' re doing , believe in it , and try not to get distracted by what everyone else is doing .’

The Dog Store
When Jenell McKinnell first laid eyes on her Border Collie , Pete , she knew it was true love . But after a few months of tireless research into the best food , toys , training , and everything inbetween , her head felt more frazzled than a chew toy with the stuffing ripped out . She found herself wondering how people were to know which brands were trustworthy with our precious four-legged friends , and how life would have been made so much easier with a friendly , onestop-shop for all things doggie related ; the answer of course , her very own Dog Store .
Situated on Sun Street in Canterbury , Jenell ’ s vibrant shop is now filled to the brim with the very best food , treats , harnesses and toys . Venture into the back and you will even find the shop ' s very own grooming room where happy , messy pups can get pampered to their heart ' s content , while their doting owners indulge in a bit of retail therapy . Cuddling cute dogs all day is enough for anyone to love their job , but apart from that , Janell revealed she loves her business because of the wonderful people she gets to work with , and the daily gratification of getting to help people and their wonderfully fluffy companions get the very best out of life together .
