Let There Be Light cont ...
“ A great lighting scheme doesn ’ t rely on just one source . Rather it will cleverly combine ambient , task and accent lighting to create a layered effect .”

ORCHESTRATE YOUR LIGHTING

More often than not , lighting in interiors is overlooked , an afterthought or quick fix to complete a room , and yet interior designers demand that lighting be considered as one of the most important aspects when designing a space .
Great lighting has the ability to transform the overall feel and mood of a room , adding depth or height , it can also highlight key architectural features and zones within a space . Orchestrate your lighting with layers ; in the same way that colours and textures complement one another , experiment with different levels of lighting . Start by controlling the levels of light by finding the perfect balance of natural and artificial sources . Consider colour , tones and materials . Experiment with angles , and build on the three main elements : ambient lighting – the key to providing the right ambience and distribution of light ; accent – a way of adding drama and focus to a particular area or feature ; and task lighting – for darker , poorly lit areas like corridors or under cabinet spaces . Envisage how you see a room being used before starting , consider the practicalities of the space and how much light will be needed ; use multiple light sources , and combine them together to form a visually and functionally well balanced space .
