WELCOME

It ’ s finally here … Summer !
Yes , that great British expectation of happy , sunny , lazy , fun-filled days …. which is often replaced with the stark reality of miserable hot kids ( and partners !), sand-filled packed lunches and some impressive downpours …
Well worry not Kent .
For our August issue of your favourite local magazine is bursting with ideas to help you have a summer to remember – for all the right reasons !
I think it ’ s fair to say that we are entering this August with a little bit of trepidation . Having ironically spent ‘ Freedom Day ’ in isolation ( honestly you couldn ’ t make this up !) this is a sentiment not lost on me , and also why we at iKHQ have attempted to showcase staycation days out and outdoor pursuits to encourage you to have fun but to remain as safe as possible this summer .
Blessed with our little coastal corner of England we bring you Kent ’ s best beaches on p39 ( for which there is now a handy app to help you avoid the crowds see www . englandscoast . com / en / blog / beachcheck-uk-app for details ) and inspiration for spending 48 Hours in Broadstairs on p53 ; and if you are keen to make the most of the sun ( please weather gods ) check out our round up of the best sand , sea and surf activities on p45 ; and some family-fun inducing ‘ at the beach ’ must haves from p112 – we ’ ve even thrown in the suncare essentials too . And to keep you looking fresh and hot ( as in stylish not as in melting – although in my case both will probably be true …) we have this summer ’ s best beach looks on p100 ; summer hair care tips from Kent ’ s top industry experts on p105 and highlight this summer ’ s essential products from p107 .
I was filled with yet more happiness when compiling our August events section ; that is finally bursting back into life with theatre shows , music performance , family events , and more ! Get excited from p13 . And if you need more days out inspo then head to p23 to find something to do for almost every day of the month !
Of course summer days also means summer meals , so what better issue to highlight the fantastic and delicious seafood our county has to offer ? Discover Kent ’ s sustainable seafood story on p59 and fall hook , line and sinker for the restaurants offering the most tempting dishes in town .
Aside from sandy toes and staycation sunsets , August is also the month in which we celebrate another great British tradition , the far from humble afternoon tea ! Not only have we rounded up some fabulous places to indulge in our aptly titled Game of Scones on p73 , we have even found some delicious recipes for you to get your own summer bake on , starting on p81 .
If you are becoming seriously staycation focused we also have all you need to plan your travels on p157 ; consider your own second home by the sea on p167 ; and some gorgeous Hamptons-esq coastal chic interior inspiration just for you on p136 !
INDULGING IN A LEGENDARY REYNOLD ’ S ICE CREAM AT GREATSTONE BEACH
And of course there ’ s more to ‘ hook ’ your attention too – for inspiration , news , days out and stays keep it insideKENT !
I ’ m off with the rest of # TeamSideways to tick off the places in the ingenious Ice Cream Trail coming to Ashford & Tenterden this summer – see p35 for details – and indulge in a ‘ whippy ’ or two too !
Stay safe this summer Kent !
