ON PIZZA , ASHFORD

No one ever said , “ It was a fantastic meal , full of flavour and TINY . Loved it !” But everyone also knows that more often than not , ‘ supersize ’ can sometimes also mean , ‘ super-lacking .’ So what is an independent pizza restaurant in Ashford ’ s saturated pizza market going to do to stand out ? Well it ’ s simple : it ’ s going to serve up the biggest pizza you ’ ve ever seen , at a ridiculously reasonable price and what ’ s more , it ’ s going to be delicious .
Why hasn ’ t everyone else thought of this ?
The ultimate test for takeaway is feeding the constantly ravenous team at insideKENT . We ’ d been planning lunch since breakfast and revisited the menu all morning to plan what to order . Adam , our publisher , kindly got given the errand of pick-up ( and paying ) and we waited for his return . 12.08 he was back and as soon as he walked through the office door carrying 3 boxes of 20 inch pizzas and an array of extras , we all broke out in spontaneous variants of , ‘ Mmmmmmm , ahhhhhs and wows .’
12.08 is an acceptable time to eat lunch ... we ’ re 8 minutes past , so after lots of posing next to the pizzas to demonstrate sheer scale and some regrettable shots of dangling a slice over our mouths , we tucked in .
We ’ d ordered Holiday Doughballs – think tiny calzones – Smokey Doughballs , Cheesy Buffalo
Wedges , Buffalo Wings , which were all delicious , followed by 20inch pizzas ; an On Margherita , an Eat Meat Repeat and a Kalamata Dave . The saying , ‘ Your eyes are too big for your stomach ’ can be rewritten for this experience as quite literally , ‘ Your food is bigger than your actual real life stomach , plus your head and maybe a couple of other body parts thrown in for good measure ’. It was by far the biggest pizza I ’ ve ever seen , but also one of the most delicious . So well done On Pizza . You ’ ve quite possibly achieved the near impossible ; utterly huge and utterly yummy .
