ORPINGTON GPO
The Refectory ( www . refectorykitchen . com ) is quite the unassuming building tucked away on St Dunstans Street in Canterbury – it really is hard to comprehend the pure deliciousness that awaits you on the other side of the dark blue doorway to this laid back brunch haven . For all those loved-up couples desperate for a few romantic brunches now that we are all ( pretty much ) free again , this is the place for you . The interior screams intimate brunch dates with that special someone , with rustic wooden tables , exposed brick walls and a distinctly homely feeling the place has a real sense of comforting familiarity to it . Sit back and relax while dog-watching out of the window with a piping hot cup of coffee , or enjoy the sunshine and cool spring breeze on their cosy patio with a few Bloody Mary ’ s . The Refectory , of course , has all the classics ; from avocado toast , buttermilk pancakes , bacon butties , not to mention the belly busting ‘ The Refectory Grill Up ’, but the pièce de résistance of their menu is the ‘ Refectory Breakfast Burger ’. The monstrous burger consists of a succulent sausage patty , smoked streaky bacon , American cheese , a fried egg , and lettuce , all topped with The Refectory ’ s very own BBQ sauce and a brioche bun , and if all of that isn ’ t enough for you the dish is also served with a smattering of lemon and paprika potatoes . Be sure to wear your stretchy pants to this brunch spot because you ’ ll be leaving with the mother of all food babies .
Last on our list of banging brunch venues to visit this summer is Orpington GPO ( www . orpingtongpo . co . uk ). We have really got something for everyone on our list , from dishes for adventurous foodies to meals to keep health conscious folks happy ; but Sunday brunch at Orpington GPO offers a back to the basics approach to the meal that people who enjoy the simpler things in life will adore . There are no frills , or bells and whistles on this menu , just a solid , hearty brunch that will keep you happy for hours to come . Nestled cosily in the heart of Orpington High Street , the restaurant represents the town and the Kentish countryside that surrounds it . Making good use of the local resources the dishes are presented with a flourish , and although there are no bombastic creations on the menu , the food will still have your mouth watering , and tummy rumbling . Eggs are clearly Orpington GPO ’ s bread
and butter , as they are on offer in almost every dish ! From eggs florentine served with wilted spinach , poached eggs and hollandaise all perched seductively on a crunchy slice of sourdough , to eggs royale , which swaps out the spinach for the king of breakfast food ; smoked salmon . But of course we couldn ’ t talk about the best traditional brunch around without mentioning the uncontested champion of brunching ; the full English breakfast . There is not an item in this article that people love more than a tried and true fry up ; eggs whichever way you like , rashers of crispy bacon and delectable sausage , saucy baked beans to dip your buttered sourdough into , mushrooms , and tomatoes galore ! What more could anyone ask from a simple meal , maybe an extra black pudding or two , because that can certainly be arranged !
Here at iKHQ we are officially declaring 2021 the year of brunching , so get out there and stuff yourself silly with all the best , most delicious dishes Kent has to offer !
