Dice Fuels concentrates itself on customer service , and excellent pricing with everything revolving around a family business . Many of the smaller independent fuel distributors have been swallowed up by large corporate companies , losing that personal touch . Dice has recognised this , and strives hard to replace what it feels is missing from a competitive industry .
Formed in July 2018 , it ' s a husband and wife team running the daily operation with Sally Popplewell being at the helm . With over 15 years ’ experience in the fuel industry at managerial level , Sally ensures that the business operates smoothly , processing the orders and routing driver ’ s daily schedules , with daughter Hannah keeping all the accounts in order .
Tanker drivers Joe and James are the family ’ s frontline troops , with James being Sally ’ s son . Their local knowledge is unprecedented , with both drivers behind the wheels of their 20,000 litre capacity Mercedes Tankers . A third smaller tanker complements their growing fleet and ensures the more difficult location deliveries are covered .
Sally ’ s husband Jamie keeps an eye on safety and transport matters as well as carrying out deliveries in the rural emergency delivery vehicle , often with son Jack in tow . This bespoke small vehicle is designed for inaccessible areas and emergency deliveries , with a capacity of 850 litres , it is primarily aimed at customers who have run out of heating oil and require a delivery typically within 24 hours .
It ’ s not just heating oil that is supplied by Dice . Many of the rural farms throughout the county are supplied with gas oil ( red diesel ). The company is fully aware of the importance of keeping the agricultural industry running , for everything from combines to driers , with all their customers benefiting from that same level of customer service .
Dice has expanded in its three years of operation , so we asked managing director Sally Popplewell how she views the next three years ?
“ The business was set up with customer service being at its forefront . I had worked for just over 15 years for one of the large national fuel distributors where
I had seen change to something I didn ’ t really like . Where customers just become a number rather than a name , where customer service frankly just didn ’ t exist .
“ When I started this business back in July 2018 I was determined to put the customer first , and that ’ s something that we have continued to do over the last three years . It would be foolish to try and change what we have managed to achieve in that time , so my vision for the future is to keep everything on an even keel , continue to keep our customers happy , continue to get positive feedback from them all , and of course continue to offer extremely competitive pricing .”
