At the beginning of every project we always ask our clients if they own any particular piece of art or furniture that they want to keep . If they have artwork that they want us to include in the project , we design the room around it to ensure the space flows . In these cases , rather than having art created to match a scheme and blend in , the artwork becomes the starting piece for that particular space .

POSITIONING

Positioning artwork within a space can seem daunting , the word curation is associated with gallery spaces and not at home , and yet , it doesn ’ t have to be such a difficult task . Start by getting a feel for the space , position wall art on the floor next to the wall where it will be displayed for example , and play around with colours , shapes and dynamics . A statement , colourful dramatic piece should be positioned for maximum impact , in entrances , on the biggest wall in a room or at the end of a corridor , stairwell or landing – this will give the piece the wow-factor it deserves . Play around with groups of works : photographs , prints and wall pieces to create a larger picture on a statement wall or floating shelf if lacking space . For maximum effect , position bold graphics , textiles of sculptural shapes in a transitional space – this will create dimension in a space and will sleekly fit with the aesthetic of a room . Avoid hanging pieces too low or high ( unless on purpose ), consider symmetry when hanging and stick to groupings of odd numbers for ornamental pieces – but make it personal , get creative and do you !
