BRING THE OUTSIDE IN

ositioning sofas or chairs to maximise light and views of the outside space is the first and foremost in room design . Bringing accents of the outside into a room creates a wonderful transition between the living room and garden , giving the illusion of a bigger space . If this isn ’ t possible , use window boxes or hanging planters outside of the window to enhance the view . Use houseplants to bring a little colour and freshness to a space , opt for succulents or trailing plants that are hardy like the Bacopa or the spider-plant . Invest in a large potted fern , not only do they make a wonderful centrepiece , they are reasonably easy to maintain , tolerate reduced lighting and are just beautiful . When purchasing a plant it ’ s important to check first how much sunlight they need – this varies from plant to plant . Make a bold statement with a sculptural house plant , use a stand-out vase and position it as a focal point within the room for impact . You could also experiment with floral , leafy wallpapers , prints and materials ; green is a colour that is proven to make us feel content , and boost our moods . Not only do indoor plants bring colour , vibrancy and happiness , they also provide filtering for pollutants , freshen the air and increase oxygen .

‘ Opt for abundant , trailing plants , such as the pretty but hardy Bacopa . Variants include the Snowtopia , with white flowers and Blutopia , with mixed white and blue flowers , and comfortably trail over 45cms . The un-fussy and easy to maintain spider plant is also a great window plant ’
