THE KENT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TEAM
Based in Ashford , the Foundation provides professional philanthropy advice to high-net-worth individuals , families and businesses who are looking to make a difference to their local communities by donating through them to local charitable organisations across the county .
Part of a UK wide accredited network of forty-six Community Foundations , Kent Community Foundation is committed to improving the lives of local people and communities , particularly the most vulnerable , isolated and disadvantaged , by matching those who want to help with those who need the help . The Foundation assists individuals , families and businesses to establish their own charitable funds to support local causes closest to their hearts , and are responsible for more than eighty philanthropic funds , which support small local causes across the county ’ s thirteen districts .
Josephine McCartney , chief executive , Kent Community Foundation , said : “ This year Kent Community Foundation is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a grant-maker and professional philanthropic adviser . We have been finding , funding , and supporting some of the smallest voluntary organisations in the county for 20 years . In this time , we have distributed over £ 40 million to support thousands of small charities and deserving causes where a modest sum of money can make a significant impact on the work they are doing in the community . The pandemic has had a devastating effect on the charitable sector , and we would welcome your support so that we can continue helping grassroots organisations for the next twenty years .
Organisations looking for support can apply to us under four broad themes including elderly and isolated , vulnerable adults , children , young people and families , and those helping with employability skills and enterprise . Our job is to match these applications with the philanthropic funds that we manage . The average grant size is £ 5,000 and applications are welcome throughout the year for funding to support new or existing projects , schemes that will allow charities to adapt their services during the Coronavirus restrictions , and for everyday running costs .
There are many ways individuals , families and businesses can help us to make a difference and we would love to hear from you if you would like to help your community .”

During Kent Community Foundation ’ s anniversary year , the Foundation is asking people across the county to help them to make a difference by considering leaving a legacy in their will .
It is estimated that around 70 % of the £ 2billion left to charity each year goes to charities with a turnover of £ 10million or more . Smaller , grassroots projects that are making a fantastic difference locally are missing out . If you would like to support Kent Community Foundation , in securing future financial support for these smaller groups , why not consider leaving a legacy in your will . Rather than being a drop in the ocean , your gift could be a lifesaver to small community groups , many of which are volunteer led .
