DOWN HOUSE THE GLADES
Day 1
MORNING It seems rather apt to begin your adventure at the very place where Charles Darwin conceptualised the theory of evolution and wrote On The Origin of The Species . Down House ( www . english-heritage . org . uk ), Darwin ’ s former family home , not only allows guests to visit an internationally recognised historic and scientific site ( visitors can even stand in his study !), but also the opportunity meander through the awardwinning grounds too . Achieving three 2020 London in Bloom gold awards , Darwin ’ s ‘ outdoor laboratory ’ where he spent many hours making observations and conducting experiments that helped develop his ground-breaking theories , offers strolls along Darwin ’ s ‘ thinking path ', wanders past bountiful vegetable patches , as well as fragrant flower beds surrounded by the tranquil countryside .
LUNCH With a probable evolution to hunger status , head to ‘ Diner ’ s Choice ’ faves The Cow & Pig ( www . cowandpigbromley . com ). Located in East Street , diners can choose from many of the renown steakhouses ’ tasty dishes – think crisp calamari , firecracker chicken wings , Saddleback pork belly , sirloin steak , and chocolate brownie to name but a few – from the very reasonably priced lunch menu .
AFTERNOON Re-energised and it ' s time to hit the streets , well the high street to be precise and to shopping mecca The Glades ( www . theglades . co . uk ). Having been a permanent fixture on Bromley High Street since 1991 , the welcoming shopping centre is home to 135 different stores from homewares to fashion to technology , and plenty of restaurants and cafés too . As well as all the shopping and eating that can be done here , there are often free seasonal events in the centre throughout the year too !
