CELEBRATING 80 YEARS OF CARE IN KENT
All of Rapport Housing & Care ’ s care home managers are celebrating 20 years of service with the charity this year . With 80 years of service combined , the four home managers have seen a lot of changes over the last two decades .
“ Care in general was very different back then , we didn ’ t have much knowledge surrounding dementia , things have definitely improved and changed for the better !” says Christine Hutchinson , who splits her time between Rapport ’ s , Edward Moore House in Gravesend and Dene Holm in Northfleet . Christine continues ; “ In the last 20 years , I have seen how the social care sector sadly continues to be undervalued . I would like to think that social care will finally get the recognition it deserves and the government funding it has been lacking for so long . I ’ d like to see carers for the vital work they do .”
Christine Devlin , who manages Connors House , Canterbury adds ; “ The past 20 years have taught me the importance of treating people as individuals . The next 20 years will bring retirement , which seems unbelievable , as I feel like I could do much more . I ’ d love to take Connors House to a CQC outstanding rating , that would be an achievement to retire on !”
MASTHOUSE WHISKY SETS SAIL FROM COPPER RIVET DISTILLERY
Copper Rivet Distillery has released its first single-estate , farm to glass whisky – Masthouse Single Malt Whisky ( 45 % ABV ). Crafted by head distiller , Abhi Banik , Masthouse Whisky is a natural , unfiltered whisky , pot-distilled and matured in ex-bourbon and virgin American white oak barrels . Striking the perfect balance of rich complexity and approachability , it is the first very limited release of their core Masthouse whisky range , with Column Malt and Grain whiskies to be released over the next 12-24 months .
Made with specially grown Kentish malted barley , Belgravia , from the nearby Isle of Sheppey , the spirit is inspired by the ancient craft of mastmaking at Chatham ’ s Royal Dockyard , where the Whisky is distilled .
Copper Rivet Distillery ’ s co-founder Stephen Russell commented : “ We ’ re obsessive about creating beautiful , accessible spirits for people ’ s enjoyment and the way we ’ ve built our whisky distillery reflects that .
“ With Masthouse Whisky we aim to go over the top in our quest to produce a fascinating and elegant whisky which competes with the best from around the world on flavour and quality .”
Masthouse Whisky is available for pre-order from Master of Malt and from www . copperrivetdistillery . com and will ship to customers in early December in time for Christmas .
MICRO-MOBILITY COMES TO CANTERBURY
Bird , the leading micro-mobility operator , has launched a 12-month trial in Canterbury . Bird ’ s mission is to solve ‘ the last mile ’ problem , where journeys are too short for public transport to be efficient , but too long to walk . Many of these journeys have traditionally taken place in cars adding to congestion and carbon emissions .
Students in the city will be able to access an app and the scooters will initially only be available on a set route between the Canterbury Christ Church University and The University of Kent . The trial will be expanded in stages before being available in the city .
Leader of Canterbury City Council , Cllr Ben Fitter-Harding , said " We ' re pleased the bid for a trial e-scooter scheme in Canterbury has been successful . Projects such as this encourage people to get out of their cars and can make a contribution to improving air quality ."
