TABLESCAPING CONT .
Add a pop of colour
You don ’ t need a whole new crockery set to host an impressive Christmas meal – and , actually , that plain white set that serves up simple suppers can be the ideal backdrop for a more eye-catching display !
Layering up crockery with a charger or dinner plate underneath , and then a dessert or side plate , with a bowl on top adds height and a sense of grandeur . Tuck a napkin – folded lengthways into a wide ribbon – into the crockery layers to add texture , and face the emblem or decoration on the napkin forward to the guest . The most beautiful colour is always natural – something Neptune takes great inspiration from in their paints and fabrics – and adding an orange , pomegranate or fig into the bowl with a little cutting of foliage curved around it will create an organic finishing touch . Choosing a fruit that really contrasts with your crockery will make the setting stand out , and it can also be turned into part of a dinner or dessert later in the holidays !
Baubles work anywhere
There ’ s something magical about Christmas baubles , especially those that are hand-blown and have a vintage feel to them . Our Torrington decorations look wonderfully traditional , with their bronzed tint and velvet ribbon . These beautiful pieces have potential far beyond the tree , and laid along a tabletop or in a bowl , are an instant way to bring a festive feel to a table . Combine different sizes and shapes for interest , and watch the light reflect off them to add sparkle . You can also swap these for the fruity finishing touch in your place setting , so if you ’ re hosting more than one event this Christmas , simply switching out fruit for a beautiful bauble will change things up at the table .
Celebrate by candlelight
Although we might not be able to gather by candlelight at the churches , carol services and Christmas markets this year , we can hopefully gather around the table in our households . Adding candlelight into your table setting is the perfect way to add instant atmosphere , and makes the most of December ’ s dark evenings . Our Neve tea light holders are etched , and diffuse the light from the candle creating a warm glow . Combining different coloured finishes will help add depth to a display along the table , and one of our favourites is Neve in the amber finish which glow like little pots of gold .
For a grander look , tall tapered dinner candles add height and drama . Burning these to different lengths , or using different sized holders will create an interesting pattern of light along the table , and catch the eye at different levels . Our Heddon candlestick holders come in small and tall sizes , so alternating these along the length of a table , console or mantle will look incredibly effective .
