There are refined plates such as slow braised beef cheek and trio of lamb ; homemade skewers and mouth watering burgers . Go on a Tuesday and it ’ s ‘ pies for the win ’, as heaving plates , including Butcher ’ s Block signature cheek and tail pie , fill the dining room . And , there are of course , individual and sharing prime steak cuts . Filet , T-bone , rib-eye , côte de boeuf , chateaubriand and New York strip all tempt , and , with a resident butcher on site , if you fancy a larger cut the team are more than happy to accommodate !
With steak being my go to dining out dish I was in my element , however , our dining quartet boasted a proud pescatarian … Who reassuringly was equally in awe of the portion sizes and options available .
Whilst our fish-loving friend delved into the heaving dish of pan-fried cod ; sat atop crushed new potatoes and green beans , served with a moorish lemon butter ; us meat-lovers watched in delight as first the perfectly seared , thick and juicy 16oz T-bone with a king prawn skewer arrived , before being triumphed by the incredible , and perfectly medium-rare , 600g chateaubriand sharing platter , complete with red wine jus , triple cooked chips and a cheeky side of
bubbling indulgent macaroni cheese – each dish was incredible !
It was amazing that the atmosphere was so buzzing when so much focus was justifiably put into each delicious mouthful , our own sighs of “ Mmmm , that is sooo good ” echoed by our neighbouring diners , but all testament to the welcoming and laid back setting that has been created here .
So relaxed and at home were we that we didn ’ t want to leave , recognising our reluctance whilst still sticking to covid-timed bookings , the team had reserved us a seat back in the bar to allow us to indulge in a slower-paced dessert and a well deserved digestif or two .
Recognising that quality products are just as important behind the bar as on the table , Simon and Jo have stocked theirs with an impressive array of local wines , ales and ciders , as well as a wealth of Kent ’ s top artisan spirits too .
As we devoured the melting , indulgent chocolate and hazelnut bombe ; the too-good-to-share , banana bread and peanut butter pudding ; and the chef ’ s special zingy and sharp raspberry and lemon cheesecake , Tammy mixed up a cocktail dream , to present us with Porn Star and espresso martinis to end our first , but certainly not last , visit in style !
