REMEMBERING THOSE WHO LIT UP OUR LIVES
EACH YEAR , HEART OF KENT HOSPICE ’ S ANNUAL LIGHT UP A LIFE APPEAL ENABLES PEOPLE TO REMEMBER THEIR LOVED ONES BY DEDICATING A STAR AND DONATING IN THEIR MEMORY TO THE HOSPICE . THE ANNUAL LIGHT UP A LIFE APPEAL IS ONE OF THE MOST POIGNANT AND MEANINGFUL EVENTS IN THE HOSPICE ’ S CALENDAR .
As we near the end of a difficult year , it seems that not being able to spend as much time with the people we love has made many of us reflect more keenly on those no longer with us . Although this year , the hospice is unable to hold its two traditional remembrance services at the hospice and at The Friars in Aylesford , you can still dedicate a star in their memory and join an online remembrance service .
Sarah Pugh , chief executive of Heart of Kent Hospice explains : “ Our ‘ Light up a Life ’ appeal is truly a special occasion for our Hospice family . It creates an opportunity to remember and celebrate those who are sadly no longer with us . It also raises money , enabling us to provide exceptional care to people living with a terminal illness in our local community . It ’ s thanks to this generosity that we have been able to support over 15,700 people and their families , since we first opened our doors in 1991 . The donations that we receive mean we can continue to make a difference at one of the most difficult times in people ’ s lives .
“ We are always overwhelmed by the response to our ‘ Light up a Life ’ appeal , where a mixture of people , some that have a link to the Hospice and others who don ’ t , come together to celebrate the life of someone special .”
You can choose to hang a star on the hospice ’ s virtual tree and make an online donation by visiting www . hokh . org / support-us / make-a-donation-inmemory / light-up-a-life . This is a special way to commemorate the life of a loved one , while helping other local families needing the hospice ’ s support this Christmas . Or you can request a remembrance star from the hospice to keep close by and to hang on your Christmas tree at home . You don ’ t have to be connected to the hospice to take part in the Light up a Life appeal . It is for anyone who wishes to remember the people they have lost .
The hospice will be hosting an online remembrance service on Sunday 6 December at 4:30pm , sharing seasonal music and readings , where you can reflect and remember .
