SIXTH FORM LIFE AT ASHFORD SCHOOL

“ YOUR TIME IN THE SIXTH FORM IS A CHANCE TO PURSUE YOUR INTERESTS AND DEVELOP YOUR OWN KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS . IN SHORT , IT IS A TIME FOR YOU TO DEVELOP AS AN INDIVIDUAL .” MRS CLAIRE MILLER , DIRECTOR OF SIXTH FORM
Sixth Form Life at Ashford School
At Ashford School we recognise that the Sixth Form experience is unlike any other in your school life . It is an opportunity to explore all our school has on offer , from the academic breadth and depth of your A Level subjects and university preparation to the wide variety of sporting , music and drama opportunities , international tours or local community service .
We have high expectations of all our Sixth Form students and offer support to help them achieve their very best and to optimise their full potential . Academically , our students will benefit from excellent teaching and resources to assist them through the challenges of A Level and further study in their chosen subjects .
Our Sixth Form Curriculum
We are proud to receive excellent results year on year with 87 % of all A Level students achieving A * - C and 47 % A * -A . At the heart of the academic experience at Ashford School lies a commitment to building positive learning habits , so that all our students can reach their full potential .
Our Sixth Form curriculum is delivered by passionate and highly qualified subject specialists who work with dedication to ensure that every student leaves with a distinguished academic record . We expect our Sixth Form students to embrace opportunities and challenges , to take responsibility and to lead others . In this way they will develop both academically and personally .
Beyond the standard curriculum , opportunities for wider learning are encouraged in all subjects . These include the EPQ ( Extended Project Qualification ), international and national science and maths competitions ( Olympiads ), CREST awards , charity organisations , leadership roles in mentor systems , and many more . This constant blend of challenge and support gives our students a perfect environment to continually extend themselves and become better equipped for life beyond Ashford School .
Careers and Higher Education Support
In 2020 , 77 % of our students gained a place at their first choice university and 54 % have secured places to attend a Russell Group university . We firmly believe in supporting our students through the decision-making process when the time comes to think about University , careers and beyond . To provide the best information , advice and guidance to our pupils , we organise various activities during the year , which are open to all Sixth Form students .
We also understand that today ’ s job market is complex and constantly evolving , and our students are faced with a wide range of choices . To help our students tackle these decisions they are all offered one-to-one support to discuss their career plans and university options . This guidance is available throughout the year and we are also proud to have recently opened our new Wellbeing Centre which gives further emotional and mental support to all our students .
By the time our Sixth Form students leave Ashford School they will be well-prepared for the next stage in their life .
