The Duke of York ’ s Royal Military School have a very simple but ambitious vision of providing an allround education with an academic focus . From the moment you enter the campus , you will be amazed at the facilities on offer and the breadth of opportunities students can access .
Sixth Form students share common aims ; to develop academic rigour , close friendships , career ambitions and independence in a caring and lively environment . Staff who support them are passionate about ensuring each and every student embraces a sense of possibility in what they can achieve , and have the ambition and confidence to drive themselves forward to be the best they can possibly be .
Students are guided and supported by a dedicated team of staff through a wide range of academic courses that develop independent study skills . Each member of the Sixth Form is allocated a tutor to assist them with their academic studies and preparation for life beyond the school .
The schools Next Step Programme makes sure every student is prepared for life beyond the school and able to achieve their future education and career ambitions . Along with comprehensive UCAS and careers advice , the programme looks to go further in supporting the student ’ s development for the ‘ Next Step ’. The programme also offers support to parents , so they are in a position to help their child through this important period .
While at the school students develop a level of maturity , resilience and confidence as a result of the wealth of extra-curricular ventures . These opportunities include competitive sports fixtures , Combined Cadet Force , drama and dance productions , Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award , Model UN , debating , music ensembles , ceremonial parades , weekly clubs , and much more . Results and Destinations
Students benefit from excellent teaching delivered by managers and leaders rated Outstanding by Ofsted ( 2018 ). This level of teaching produced an average B grade at A Level in 2020 . Outstanding success included A * A * A * A * candidates Sophie O ’ Smotherly ( English Literature at Cambridge ) and Ruben Bentley ( Theoretical Physics at Durham ), with many other students achieving Russell Group university entry .
Designated Full-Boarding Environment
Sixth Form students thrive within a new purposebuilt , designated boarding environment , Centenary
House , providing en-suite accommodation and a stepping stone into university and adult life . Boarding gives students a greater opportunity for independence while still providing the support they need in this vital phase of their education .
Inclusive Boarding Fees
As a state full-boarding school , parents are only required to pay for boarding as the government pays for the education . The fee includes full-boarding , catering , laundry and over 70 clubs per week . From January 2021 , fees stand at £ 4,999 per term (£ 14,997 per year ).
Academic Scholarships
The school offers 80 % academic scholarships to students that gain at least 8 GCSE passes including English and mathematics , with grade 8 or above in at least two GCSEs and grade 7 or above in a further three GCSEs . All scholarship candidates must be able to demonstrate an excellent behaviour record .
