Explore 80 acres of adventure at The Historic
Dockyard – discovering interactive
exhibitions, indoor and outdoor play areas
and 10 museums and galleries. Step onboard
two historic warships and discover what it
was like to be at sea – or even below the
sea! – in a tour of HM Submarine Ocelot and
much more. Association and Chatham Historic Dockyard
Trust, the exhibition will be sharing some of
the fascinating stories of the life and
contribution of black people who lived within
the historic boundaries of Kent. Celebrating
their incredible, but relatively unknown
contributions to politics, armed forces, sports,
religion, society and the arts.
Plus, from 5th October, delve in to the latest
temporary exhibition held at the No.1 Smithery
in The Dockyard – Untold Stories: A
Celebration of Black People in Kent. Untold
Stories seeks to tell the story of African and
Caribbean people across Kent and Medway in
the 19th and 20th century. Brought to you by
the Medway African and Caribbean During the Halloween half term, Enchanted
Garden will be back too. From 20th–28th
October, find out what the fairies have been
up to since last year in the magnificent
grounds of The Commissioner’s House which
will be transformed in to an Enchanted
Garden. It will be a week full of magic, myths
and captivating fun for everyone to enjoy.
Don’t miss the railway weekends too where
you can see the steam trains up close and
running. With the perfect backdrop for photo
opportunities for train enthusiasts and the
family too, see the Chatham Historic Dockyard
Railway run on just under one mile of line.
Speak to the team of volunteers or give them
a wave as they steam through the site! Don’t
forget to see the railway workshop too in The
Wagon Stop food outlet where the kids can
play in a train-themed indoor play area.
