LOS ANGELES MUST SEES Warner Bros Studio Tour Jump on a set buggy and embark on a three-hour visit to a real working Hollywood studio on the Warner Bros Studio Tour. Explore outdoor sets and sound stages that have been used in productions such as The Big Bang Theory, Pretty Little Liars, La La Land and Gilmore Girls. Get up close and personal with the Batman Museum and see the Batmobile collection, original props, costumes and sets including those featured in the DC Universe. We even had sneak peeks of closed sets before taking a seat on that sofa from Central Perk! www.wbstudiotour.com Our top pick for dinner: Roku Situated on Sunset Boulevard, Roku brings contemporary high- end Japanese dining straight to West Hollywood. The dining room is split into three: the secluded and trendy indoor/outdoor patio dining room for those looking to explore the à la carte menu of sushi, sashimi and refined Japanese dishes featuring exceptional quality ingredients including Japanese Waygu, black cod and tuna; the sushi bar, where diners get up close to Chef Jiro Kobayashi as he prepares his signature traditional and contemporary sushi; and our destination for the evening: the Teppanyaki Room. Situated at the rear of the dining room, and handily placed to watch the mixologists prepping up a cocktail storm, are the Teppan Grill tables with their high stools placed to take full advantage of the theatre of the specialist chefs in this interactive dining experience. The menu offers either the ‘lite’ choice of house soup, vegetables and a protein choice, or the ‘loaded’ which adds kale salad, hibachi shrimp and either steamed, vegetable or chicken fried rice to your dish. Following the manager’s recommendation, we went for the combo option – one opting for the Japanese A-5 Wagyu New York and lobster and one the filet mignon and Jidori chicken. Not to be left out, there is a dedicated children’s Teppanyaki menu from which they chose the Faroe salmon, Jidori chicken and filet mignon to complete the hat trick. And then came the fun part... Hours of food theatre, onion volcanos set alight by laser beams, impressive knife skills, ingredient juggling, and best of all, the presentation of dish after dish of spectacularly prepared, beautifully presented and wonderfully tasting Asian cuisine finished as we began, with yet more fire, with Roku’s unique take on DIY s’mores and the volcanic brownie revealed by the burning of the most amazing blueberry candyfloss – family dining perfection! www.rokusunset.com 118
