THE KAREN CARPENTER STORY // 7 DEC
The Carpenters’ music was the
soundtrack to the 1970s.
Hauntingly beautiful songs like
“Close to You” and “We’ve Only
Just Begun” made Richard and
Karen Carpenter international
superstars. Soprano Rebecca
Robinson and pianist Mark
Heller are appearing at the
Gulbenkian Theatre with a
captivating show that charts the
meteoric rise to fame of the
brother and sister duo. The
show reveals the turbulent lives
that lay behind the glamour and
success, culminating in Karen’s
untimely passing in 1983 from Anorexia. This memorable and moving
performance pays tribute through song, story and footage. Intimate
piano and vocal arrangements showcase The Carpenters’ musical
legacy in all its poignant beauty.
