A COSY CHRISTMAS cont.
CANDLES SEASONAL FLOWERS COLOURS
Candles are wonderfully atmospheric, and at
Christmas they tend to evoke days gone by,
making your home look truly beautiful. There
are hundreds of different styles of candles to
choose from – just take a look online and
you’ll see what we mean – so pick the type
that is right for you. Just remember though,
you may love a scented candle on 1st
December, but by Twelfth Night you’ll be
wishing you’d stuck with something a little
less smelly. One of the simplest ways to decorate your
fireplace this Christmas is to place your
favourite seasonal flowers in pretty pots all
around it. This might be hyacinths, white
narcissus, scarlet amaryllis, or the perennial
favourite, the poinsettia, for example. Find
some twigs and glitter them up (or buy some
already glittered) and pop them in the pots to
add some special sparkle to the look too. When it comes to choosing the colours for
your Christmas decorations to go around your
fireplace or along the mantle, you don’t have
to stick with red, gold and green unless you
are a true traditionalist. Many other colours
can have just as dramatic and – importantly
– Christmassy feel to them as well. White, for
example, is a classic, giving your home an
elegant feel in a modern way. Blue is fresh
and fun and really stands out against any
background.
Try to combine the candles you place around
your fireplace with metallic objects that will
take up the shine of the flame and exaggerate
it. Metallic decorations are ideal as you can
stick with the festive theme and really make
a statement.

STOCKINGS
What is a Christmas fireplace without
stockings hanging from it? Whether these are
the same stockings that have been used for
decades, or new ones freshly bought for this
year, they are the perfect way to finish off any
fireplace at Christmas time.
