The Rustic Oven also serves a selection of gourmet hot dogs served with fried onions and jalapenos for a spicy kick, alongside homemade bagels filled with a choice of salt beef, smoked salmon or avocado.
To round off this foodie trail, the Nacho Wagon( nachowagon. co. uk) visits a variety of locations across Medway serving Mexican-style street food fresh every week. The menu features loaded nachos, served with a side of homemade pico de gallo and chunky guacamole, as well as freshly made tacos filled with a range of toppings from Mexican shredded chicken to Peking duck and lamb shawarma.
Throughout August, the Nacho Wagon will be based in various locations across Medway, with regular weekday stops including Gillingham Business Park on Tuesdays and The George Pub in Rochester on Wednesdays, while weekend locations vary and can be found on the company’ s website.
HATCHES, HOPS AND HARBOUR VIEWS
Some of the best summer days in Kent don’ t need a plan, just a hut or a hatch and somewhere to sit with a view. Folkestone Harbour Arm is a great place to start. Hut 19 is the Produced in Kent hut, where we showcase a different producer every weekend through the summer, so it’ s always worth a look to see who’ s serving.
The Wayfarer Wines hut is just along in the marketplace, pouring Kentish wine by the glass, and there’ s dozens of street food vendors and summer events to keep you there longer than you planned.

Macknade in Faversham is a personal favourite. Their food village brings together everything from Japanese street food to artisan doughnuts, and the new Hop Shed Bar is a lovely spot to sit with a pint. Bears Ice Cream’ s Scooptopia is there too and entirely worth queuing for- be brave and go for one of their more exciting flavours, like their awardwinning Blueberry, Lavender Jam & Meringue Swirl. Promise you won’ t be disappointed. Through August there’ s live music on weekends, so it’ s easy to turn a quick stop into an afternoon.
Out at Loddington Farm near Maidstone, The Loddington Tap has a fantastic selection of local beers and ciders alongside their own Owlet juices, plus a different food truck each weekend, so there’ s always something new to try. The farm shop alongside is stocked with local goodies and their own fruit and veg, so you can take a bit of the farm home with you too.
This is just a tiny selection of the ever-growing range of pop-up locations around Kent for you to get out and explore, and none of them involve pre-planning or booking.
