Renowned Investor Brings Speaker Series to TSU – Carroll, First Speaker
Houston based investor Daniel Breen,
president, chief executive officer, founder,
and managing general partner of Breen
Investors LP, sponsored an “Our Future”
speaker series for the students at Texas
Southern University. Conceived as an
outlet to allow students - the future of
America’s workforce – to hear advice from
executive level professionals on the steps
necessary to achieve career successes, “Our
Future” promises to be a meaningful and
impactful opportunity for students.
First to bring his expertise and
experience to students was TSU College
of Science and Technology graduate
Milton Carroll. Carroll currently serves
as Executive Chairman of Centerpoint
Energy, Inc. He founded Instrument
Products Inc. and has been its Chairman
of the Board, chief executive officer and
president since 1977. He is connected
to 56 board members in 8 different
organizations across 13 different industries.
Representatives from United Airlines toured the College of Science, Engineering &
Technology Aviation program where students can earn their pilot’s licenses. United
is looking to partner with TSU through scholarships and internships. Identities of

Houston Endowment, Inc. awards two
grants to Texas Southern University
totaling $1,090,000. The first grant of
$990,000 continues to support the Urban
Academic Village (UAV) program to
improve student engagement, retention
and completion and to implement the
plan to provide this level of support to
the entire Freshman Class beginning in
fall 2015. The second grant of $100,000
was awarded to the Texas Legislative
Internship Program (TLIP) at TSU. TLIP is
an initiative that provides opportunities
for undergraduate and graduate
students to serve as interns in the Texas
Legislature, in various state agencies,
and in local government. Total funding
over five years has exceeded $3 million.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
reaches out again to support students
with a gift of $100,000. Three years
of giving have supported general
scholarships, Urban Academic Village
(UAV), and Graduation Success grants,
each at $100,000, for a total giving of
$300,000.
CAMAC International continues to
support scholarships for students
pursuing careers in International
Business and Global Trade with a gift
of $50,000 toward their $1,000,000
endowed scholarship fund which
will be matched 1:1 by the University
yielding an endowed scholarship fund of
$2,000,000.
H-E-B builds a unique partnership
with its initial gift of $50,000 toward a
five-year pledge of $250,000. Funding
will support the President’s Leadership
Scholarship at $10,000 per year to be
matched 1:1 by the university yielding
$100,000; to create an endowed
scholarship fund of $150,000 to
be matched 1:1 by the university
yielding an endowment of $300,000;
and $10,000 per year to support the
President’s Luncheon/Gala. Students
who receive the H-E-B scholarships
will be considered for internship and
permanent hire with the company. With
the university’s match, H-E-B’s gift of
$250,000 will yield $450,000 to support
scholarships and university programs.
Baxter Trust supports the JHJ
School of Business “Frame the Future
Campaign” for scholarships and
programs with a $50,000 gift that is the
first payment of a $100,000 pledge over
two years to this program.
