and flying as a kid by his uncle, Leroy
Fair, a TSU graduate himself, Miller
declared Aviation Science as his major
and became the second graduate of the
program.
“I was fortunate to have crossed paths
with Dr. Ledé,” said Miller. “She was a
strong influence on any student that she
took an interest in. She, like all my other
professors, was dedicated to the mantra
of “Excellence in Achievement” and
demanded that from her students.”
Baker arrived at TSU mid-career after
having served as an air traffic controller
in the United States Air Force and at
David Wayne Hooks Airport in Tomball,
as well as Operations Safety Officer
at Bush Intercontinental Airport. He
heard about the aviation program at
TSU through Dr. I. Richmond Nettey,
the aviation program’s first program
coordinator, and decided to take the
opportunity to finish his bachelor’s
degree. It took commitment for him to
get through the program. He worked
the midnight shift so he could attend
classes in the morning, sometimes
having to bring his
