he owner, Giorgos, is a real
Mani enthusiast. Not only does
he have the most extensive range
of Mani publications in the area,
but he also publishes half of them!
The shop is piled high from floor
to ceiling with books, magazines,
maps, DVD’s and cards- you name
it. Although a lot of the stock is
in Greek, it’s still an experience to
have a good rummage around.
INSIDE the MANI76
his historically significant,
small square is where Greek
resistance to nearly 400 years
of Turkish occupation began. A
marble relief on a wall states the
date when “Petrobey” plunged the
Greek flag into the ground with
the cry of “freedom or death” (a
hole in the centre fo the square
represents this actual spot). The
walk there is very photogenic.
