Team Warton
Warton Plays Away Part Two ...
Steeve Rees, Startrax promoter at
Stoke Speedway must have enjoyed
the Warton Stockcar team racing at
Stoke last November because out of
the blue, he rang me to say he’d
decided to make one of his meetings a
weekender and would ‘Team Warton’
like another shot at racing shale.
With the horrible Winter weather now
just a distant memory, the date was set
for August 19th, when 16 of the lads
turned up with their shiny, tuned cars
raring to have a play.
HEAT ONE was a repeat of the
November race day with the rain
playing a major part. Undeterred, the
lads got stuck in and Richard Ellinson
#282. left the others in his wake as he
ploughed on through the sludge. How
he could see was a mystery but never
the less the Silver Trophy was his
reward when he took the win.
A fast chasing Martin "Chadders"
Chadwick couldn't quite catch him as
the track started to dry out. Maybe his
friend and team-mate "Jaggers" could
have finished higher up the order too if
he wasn't bouncing off most of the
competition.

HEAT TWO saw the heat one runner
up, Stuart Jackson #202, in the V8
powered ex-Taylor car race away on
the now dry shale surface and never
looked liked being caught. Chadders
had other ideas and in typical stockcar
fashion slid through on the last bend of
the last lap, while Jackson tango'd with
Chris Parr #167
THE FINAL was set to be a no holds
barred run as Chadders knew the V8
of Jackson would take some catching.
It was a novice driver with no name
who nearly put paid to his final win.
After bouncing off most cars, the
"Pink"un #133 took out Chadders then
promptly tried to remove Steve Rees’s
new Armco fence. Chadders just
about recovered and took the final.
Jackson's V8 tangled with Parr #167
and didn't finish - such was his luck on
the day!
So, will the lads be comming back for
another shot at Stokes shale ? "YES"
They have already booked in for the
November Winter maddness, check
out "STARTRAX" website for race
dates.
