Ormskirk ‘Motorfest’
AUGUST 2012

A Formula 1 stock car on a Lancashire
public road? Impossible you might
think, but when that F1 is on a one way
system accompanied by several Grand
Prix and Group B rally cars, it's even
harder to visualise!!
However this actually was the case on
25th August when a usually quite
sedate market town was transformed
into a motor sports epicentre at the
annual Ormskirk Motorfest.
Now in its 3rd year, this unusual event
sees the entire town turned over to
performance or classic cars and bikes
of all divisions on display in the streets

or local parks. For the 25, 000
'gearheads' on hand however, the real
'icing on the cake' is when the cars are
allowed to take to a special circuit on
the roads around the town.
This year the stock car fraternity were
well represented with a 1966 original
heritage F2 and also by local lad Neil
Holcroft, who brought along his superb
new FWJ shale F1. The mighty BriSCA
F1 drew megga-attention on both static
display and also as it went around the
2.5 mile circuit.
The big car looked right at home on
the wide sweeping roads, with a
Saudia Williams, a BRM, Metro 6R4
and Le Mans Jaguar for company.
Needless to say, countless smiles and
cheers of approval were evident from
the thousands of spectators lining the
route each time Neil blipped the
throttle on the ferocious small block
Chevy V8.
This was a great opportunity to
showcase our sport, and the event
organisers have already asked for
more of the same for 2013 - see you
there!
