Warton OUTLAW Stock Cars
TEAM FFP
O
nce again Inside Stock Car World
magazine travelled up to Warton
Raceway for the annual culling of
that “B” road menace, the
Caravan. The likes of Abby, Swift Sprite and
Basscarr were to be destroyed and not a
moment too soon. However that wasn’t the
real reason for our visit, we had herd of a
new machine that has potential to give the
chief harvester of points “James Hayhurst”
#101a run for his money.
Late starter this season Chris Alderson has
been building a new “OUTLAW “car. Never
one to be conventional, he’s decided to use
a Vauxhall twin-cam unit for his power
source. After being breathed on by the proengine builders “RED LINE ENGINES”, the
dyno-tested unit is rumoured to be pushing
out more than 250 bhp, more than enough
to compete against the Duratech lump that
Mr Hayhurst is using to great effect this
season.
Although Chris has only competed in three
rounds of the Warton championships this
season, he has managed to score enough
points to climb into the red tops and as the
points scored so far give you a grid position
for their Championship race. So already he’s
well placed to make his mark come the 8th
of September, Wartons championship day!
Alongside Chris is Team mate Andy Sinclair
who after 3 years in the Outlaw class has
the wheels under him now to climb the
points table and start to look at winning a
few major track titles. Andy has been racing
40
a V8 powered car for the first two seasons
and decided this season he, along with
Chris were to acquired two RCE chassis,
and they have. Andy is sticking with the tried
and tested Ford pinto, again built by Red
line and so far this season has been
credited with a couple of wins . The coowners of Furness Fluid Power, based in
Barrow and Morecambe, (Hydraulic &
Pneumatic specialists) are showing that with
the right machinery, they can deliver the
goods.
After the Cull was over and the track cleared
of all the caravan debris, the stock car
finalists lined up for the feature race of the
day. Twenty cars including Chris and Andy
had qualified and soon began the chase for
some silverware. Chris had already won his
heat by half a lap so was on the hunt for the
double. Both cars were soon picking their
way through the pack and with Hayhurst
chase over early on with a broken steering it
was down to Team FFP to shine.
At the chequered flag both cars crossed the
line Chris taking the win and Andy joining
him on the podium in third, a good days
racing done. Do we think that they can take
one of the major trophy’s come
championship day? No reason why not!
Both cars are now showing great potential
and consistency, but have they left it a little
late? Maybe, as the real quick guys have
secured better grid slots for the big race.
Only time will tell. We’ll have a full write-up
in the next issue, don’t miss it!
