meeting. While in a qualifying
race in the usual clouds of mud
and shale at Bellevue, Jack spun
out of control and ended up
facing the opposite way, taking
out the battery connection.
With no chance of restarting the
engine to shift the car, through
the clouds of dust came Dave
Taylor doing about 60 who just
couldn't avoid hitting him headon.
In a spectacular crash, the
moment they hit came the earth
shattering noise that stunned the
crowd into silence. Dave's car
ended up 90 degrees north,
Jacks engine dropped out of the
frame and the chassis
concertinaed like a cardboard
box. The silence was deafening
as the crowd looked on holding
their breath in anticipation of what
would happen next.
Thankfully, both drivers gave the
obligatory thumbs up and
escaped relatively unscathed unlike their cars which were
pronounced DOI (Dead on
Impact). On the way home, Dad
Jack played “Another One Bites
The Dust” by Queen from the 8track cassette in the truck.
