SKEGNESS Stadium www.skegness-stadium.info Skegness is still a popular holiday destination for millions of families and has been since the 1930s. Perched on the drier side of Britain, this seaside resort is small enough to have a friendly atmosphere and large enough to provide hours of entertainment for young and old alike. The picturesque Stock Car Stadium is situated just on the outskirts of Skegness, a couple of miles inland from Ingoldmells and draws in the crowds of holiday makers year after year, Construction started in 1976 by Frank Hughes, (Nev Hughes' Brother) and by the end of the decade Vince Moody had bought the track rights and rejuvenated its appeal to the public. In 1977 the opportunity of Speedway brought shale to the track but a re-think in 2004 saw the race surface return to tarmac. Skegness has remained an attractive venue for grass roots motorsport ever since. As the season begins in March, a 20 0844 840 8104 range of race meetings take place until November including most weekends, extra Thursdays from June and at the peak of the holiday season, additional Tuesdays and a few Bank Holidays. Skeggy stadium provides a host of facilities for souvenir hunting holiday makers, regular stock car enthusiasts and the locals including two bars, several food outlets, well stocked track shops selling racing DVD's, air horns, Race Magazines, T-Shirts, sweets and stickers. Depending on the time of year, Skeggy track showcases many types of oval racing, from the low cost high entertainment Bangers, to the sophisticated racing machines of the powerful fullcontact BriSCA F1 Stock Cars. If precision racing is more your cup of tea then the high speed non contact pure race machines of the National Hot Rods are often on show.
