FORMULA 2 EVOLUTION Have you ever wondered what a BriSCA F2 would evolve into if the rules were relaxed? Then look no further than “Warton Outlaw Stockcars”. Over the years their cars have resembled F2s on the National scene and although they look similar on the outside, if you take away the skin, it’s a completely different story. The specification on the Outlaw cars makes it difficult to cheat, mainly as there are few rules. There’s a weight rule and that’s it! To be fair the car has to be “F2” ish and most are derived from BriSCA cars, but that’s where the similarity ends. The engine specification is open, including turbo’s and superchargers. However, they draw the line at “NOS” and you have to use pump gas. To be able to put down the power the tyre spec is also open, the rule being that any tyre used must be available to everyone. 12 0844 840 8104 The current Gold Top at Warton is Stephen Hoggarth #123. His car is a long way UP the evolutionary scale as you will read. The chassis was built by F2 ace Dean Photo by John Marlow Mason the “Lancaster Bomber”#658. The engine is a “Draper” built Warton spec special, a stroked 2.4 pinto with all the steel bits required to keep the internals where they should be. The fuel is supplied by a pair of 48s Webber carburetors and electronics by MSD. All this taken into account, there should be more than 200 bhp pushing the car along. The wheels are shod in Michelin slicks 10” on the rear and 8” on the front and the brakes are 4 pot “Brembo” type alloy calipers. The car weighs right on the minimum weight of 625kg’s. At the moment, he’s leading the points and I have to say this is not a one-off. There’s at least six other cars with this spec wanting to be Warton’s 40th Champion. If you want to race at Warton you can get a day only license before jumping in for the year. The competition varies, from cars with Vauxhall and Rover V8 power to the modern Zetec powered units. Whatever you bring, you will be made very welcome in this highly evolved off-shoot of short oval racing.
