Spooktacular Monarch Thrift : The Horrors of Fast Fashion

in fashion , this was an incredible tie into their curriculum , and their support was invaluable ! Students in SEPS 102 assisted by designing spooktacular fact posters around the room , focusing on providing educational information regarding the fast fashion industry – this course is a marketing , design , and advertising course , which allowed students chances to apply their skills directly to this program . The event not only provided free clothing to ODU students , but also resource guides with information around basic needs like food support , utility assistance , and additional places that provide free or reduced cost food in the community . This year ’ s program saw an increase in both attendance and support provided , when compared to the 2022 event . Last year , 252 students attended this event , with approximately 700 lbs of clothing distributed to students . This year , 373 students attended , and approximately 960 lbs of clothing was distributed .
Spooktacular Monarch Thrift took place on October 31 in Webb Center . The Office of Leadership and Learning collaborated with SEPS 495 , taught by Joy Kelly , and SEPS 102 , taught by Dee Hamlet , as well as many community partners who generously donated items to create a FREE “ thrift store ” for ODU students to shop sustainably while learning about the HORRORS of Fast Fashion . Students in SEPS 495 helped sort donated clothing items in advance of the program , assisted with the set up and design of the space , and provided merchandising support during the event . As their course focuses on sustainability
