Gibraltar’ s First Green Bus Stop Roof Officially Launches
The Gibraltar Horticultural Society and OTWO are proud to announce the official inauguration of Gibraltar’ s very first Green Bus Stop Roof— an exciting milestone for the ongoing Green Gibraltar Campaign.
Green roofs offer a wide range of environmental and social benefits. They help reduce urban heat, improve air quality, support biodiversity, absorb rainwater, and bring nature back into built-up environments. They also soften the visual impact of concrete structures while creating greener and more attractive public spaces for the community to enjoy.
The Gibraltar Horticultural Society expressed its excitement at seeing the concept become a reality and hopes the project will inspire further sustainable urban greening initiatives throughout Gibraltar.
This landmark initiative has been made possible through the collaboration between GHS and OTWO, alongside the continued support and sponsorship of the Eroski Group, all sharing a common commitment towards building a more sustainable future for Gibraltar. Annabelle Mor-Codali, CEO of the Gibraltar Horticultural Society, stated:
“ This is more than just a green roof on a bus stop. It is a symbol of the direction Gibraltar can move towards— greener, healthier, and more sustainable urban spaces that benefit both people and nature. We are incredibly proud to launch this first pilot project and look forward to expanding the initiative across Gibraltar.”
Members of the public, partners, supporters, and the media are warmly invited to attend the inauguration ceremony and celebrate this important step towards a greener Gibraltar.

The inauguration will take place on Friday 5th June at 11:00 a. m. at the Fish Market Lane Steps bus stop, with the project proudly sponsored by the Eroski Group.
This pilot project marks the beginning of an innovative initiative aimed at transforming Gibraltar’ s urban spaces into greener, healthier, and more environmentally sustainable areas. Following the installation of this first green roof, plans are already underway to introduce a further six green bus stop roofs across Gibraltar this October.
