La Línea Honours Citizens and Institutions at this Year’ s Municipal Anniversary Ceremony On Saturday, 17 January 2026 the Palacio de Congresos de La Línea hosted the official ceremony for the presentation of distinctions and honours marking the 156th anniversary of the city’ s independence from San Roque, an event celebrating local identity, history, and civic commitment.

Among the recipients, the work of Los Locos del Parque received special recognition, awarded an honorary municipal distinction for their outstanding contribution to citizen participation, environmental stewardship, and the preservation of public green spaces. Over the past fifteen years, this volunteer association has played a key role in restoring, reforesting, and revitalising the Parque Forestal, which they found in a state of neglect and have since transformed into a healthy, accessible, and educational urban nature space for residents and visitors.
The association emphasised that their initiative did not begin with“ papers or statutes, but with people,” and today their work stands as a living forest with more than 700 mature trees, newly created natural areas, and emblematic projects. Beyond the environmental and landscape value, the project has fostered intergenerational connections, promoted physical and emotional wellbeing with particular attention to the elderly and collaborated with local institutions to curb vandalism and promote the park as a pedestrian, family-friendly space.
