II wondered whether Jay will give in to the temptation of running onto the pitch in his ambers but his sensibility holds him back “If I can give the youth a chance I love to do that. I stand there sometimes and think ‘I could do alright here’ but we’ve got some good young lads coming through and I can’t play football forever. We’ve got kids like Liam King who scored on his debut at 16 years old I get as big a buzz from that as I would do playing myself”
The players respect Jay and the club is enjoying a great amount of success. Jay puts this down to a mixture of things: “Team spirits a big part of it, we’ve got a good dressing room. We did have a lot of changes from last season I think going to another league you hope you are going to do well, nothing’s ever definite but you hope to do well and you start players that you think are going to work for you. The majority of signings have worked out and we’ve got the mentality that you always give 100% even if we’re losing to the end. If you’ve got that - and good players in your side then you always have a chance. It might be you leave someone out one week then play then the next week and it works out. We did this in the play off final with Ian Draycott we put him in the final and he had a great game and Ade Olorunda who scored the winning goal, hadn’t played. If I’m honest it always helps if you’ve got good players as well!
